As we were doing some testing of the Cruxy widgets on MySpace this morning, we realized that MySpace is stripping out embed tags from user profile pages! That’s right, those helpful HTML tags that allow you to put Flash in your page. This also means that any number of cool external widgets (like ours), which have helped MySpace become the powerhouse that it is, are broken. That’s right, not working. At all. YouTube included. Lot’s of Cruxy musicians rely on the Flash capability in MySpace to promote their songs in their profiles, so we’re mad, but this affects everybody. Was this just a glitch in their update last night, that will be fixed, or just a bonehead move to wreck the ecosystem they’ve built around their site? We’ll see what today brings I guess…either one of the biggest development mistake in their history, or one of the biggest strategic blunders…
Update: Look like this was a temporary thing, albeit noticed by (and causing the ire of) lots of other folks. Can’t imagine how that seemed like a good idea, maybe MySpace just needs to remind the world of “certain things” once in a while. Uy vey. Here’s Mashable’s summary of some thoughts from the net on what happened here.

If that holds true then that’s HUGE news for the whole social web space.. let’s see.
Looks like it may have been a temporary glitch according to Mashable:

I just wish MySpace was more transparent about their updates, features, changes, etc. If people are trying to do business on there, then they need to provide this sort of information.
So was it just a temp glitch?
Supposedly…see the update for some thoughts on what happened, and the official MySpace statement.
I was trying to put a new Flash app I justmade up on myspace for all to enjoy. Myspace killed my high, man.
